Brentwood Volunteers

If you’re looking to make a tangible difference in our community, we hope you will consider donating your time to one or more of the important community projects that Brentwood supports. Numerous opportunities are made available on a regular basis. You can check here for updates, or contact our church for the most recent opportunities (brentwoodchristianchurch@gmail.com).

Current Needs

Cold Weather Shelter. There are two locations with urgent needs:

  • The Women’s Cold Weather Shelter is coordinated by the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. It is a potentially lifesaving project that provides women with no other affordable shelter a warm, safe place to sleep on freezing nights. The shelter is open when the forecasted overnight temperature is 32°F or colder and requires two volunteers to operate each night. The shelter is currently CRITICALLY SHORT ON VOLUNTEERS and facing the reality that there may be some freezing nights we won’t be able to provide this refuge to our unsheltered friends.
  • If overnight volunteering won’t work for you, one of our partner churches, The Connecting Grounds, serves as a warming center from 4-8 p.m. every evening that the cold weather shelters are open. They provide a safe and warm place for those waiting for the shelters to open.

If you’d like to volunteer for either of these options, please contact the church office for more details.

Harmony House Meals. Brentwood prepares and serves dinner at Harmony House every three months. 4-8 volunteers are needed to prepare and serve each meal. Older children who are able to volunteer with their parents are welcome and count as part of the 4-8 people needed. Contact Paije Luth for details: writeme@paije.work. Upcoming dates:

  • April 25, 2020
  • July 25, 2020

Faith Voices of Southwest Missouri. The local Faith Voices chapter is collecting signatures in an attempt to expand Medicaid in Missouri, so that thousands of low income families might have access to lifesaving healthcare. We know that collecting signatures is not everyone’s cup of tea, but if this is something you feel drawn toward doing it has the potential to save thousands of lives in the state of Missouri. You can contact the church office and we will put you in touch with the local Faith Voices chapter.
