Sorrow beyond all words

Sharing from Phil’s Facebook page:

Waking up only to learn about the devastating news out of Dallas. I don’t have words for all the suffering — black bodies, police officers, and the families, communities and friends experiencing such loss. The chilling events of the last few days — unnecessary and inexcusable killings by the police, followed by unnecessary and inexcusable killings of the police — are symptomatic of a deeply broken system which must be changed. As Sharon Watkins describes, “Facebook seems too thin for this moment. But silence is not an option. My heart is breaking for victims of violence – black men, child witnesses and police. God be in us now to move beyond prayer and statement, to interrupt the chain of violence with strong action for a just and repaired society.”
