|Thirty clergy and concerned citizens from Faith Voices of Southwest Missouri, including Revs. Snider and Bowen-Marler and members from Brentwood, made the trip to Kansas City on June 2 for the federal hearing on predatory lending, convened by the Federal Consumers Protection Bureau.
Faith Voices of Southwest Missouri member Marla Marantz spoke at the opening rally and the hearing inside, while former Springfield Bishop James Johnston led the procession around Kansas City’s Barney Allis Plaza. According to Bishop Johnston, predatory lending “is one of the most atrocious things that still exists in our society.” Rev. Danny Chism, from University Heights Baptist Church, shared about his congregation’s program that seeks to rescue those trapped in the vicious cycle of predatory lending.
