New Sermon Series: Theological Issues in Harry Potter

Update!

Harry Potter and the Power of Choice has been added to the podcasts page.

Here are the mp3s of the first two sermons:

Harry Potter and a Mother’s Love

Harry Potter and the Band of Ragamuffins

Over the next few Sundays, Emily will be exploring theological issues in the wildly popular Harry Potter series.  Author J.K. Rowling created a rich story spanning seven books that struggle with issues such as sacrificial love, welcoming the outcast and reaching out to the least of these, the good and bad that dwells in all of us, and drawing upon the strength of the saints who have gone before.  Join us on Sunday mornings to as we wrestle with scripture and these modern-day parables.  The preaching schedule for the next six weeks is as follows (titles subject to change):

July 31 – Harry Potter and a Mother’s Love (1 Corinthians 13)

August 7 – Harry Potter and the Band of Ragamuffins (Micah 4:1-7)

August 14 – Harry Potter and the Power to Choose (Matthew 7:13-14)

August 21 – Charlie Bahn will preach on the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)

August 28 – Harry Potter and the Great Cloud of Witnesses (Hebrews 12:1-4, 12-13)

September 4 – Harry Potter and the Greater Love (John 15:12-17)

  1. For the record I picked a picture from Prisoner of Azkaban because it is my favorite in the series…
