Class on Islam set to begin October 6

During the month of October, the Rev. Paul M. Hunt, a retired United Methodist pastor, and guest, Walid Abbasi, a Muslim, will lead a class on Islam on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm. Those interested in learning more about Islam are encouraged to attend.

For the past few years, Rev. Hunt has been doing extensive study of Islam, including reading the Koran in its entirety, along with commentary. Walid, a Palestinian, was born in Jerusalem. He has lived in the United States since 1970 and has been a respiratory therapist with Cox Health and St. John’s. He has served on the National American-Arab anti-discrimination committee and has served as president of the local chapter. He teaches courses on Islam at MSU, OTC and Evangel University.

The first Wednesday, October 6, Rev. Hunt will present an introduction, brief overview and “core” beliefs of Islam and the Koran. This event is free and open to the public.
